Kenneth Frank, automotive photographer from Hamburg

Automotive photographer from Hamburg, GermanyHi, I'm Kenny.

Based in Hamburg, Germany. Behind a camera since 2012, focused on cars since 2014. Shooting, editing and design all come from me, with nobody in between.

“Every car has something about it. Most photos only show where it was parked.” Stock, modified or supercar

Over the years I have developed a feel for what makes a car what it is. Which line carries it, which angle makes it look most like itself, which detail to show and which one to leave out. I no longer look for that on the day of the shoot, I see it the moment the car is parked. Wrenching on my own cars helps me understand them. What matters most, though, is the eye.

The second half of the work happens at the computer. Colour, composition, retouching, and with some shots it goes all the way to a finished artwork. That I do both, photography and design, is not a coincidence. It is the reason the images look the way they do.

Personal work alongside the commissions.

Own projects, accreditations, travel. This is where I push the visual language and the technique, and whatever proves itself ends up in client shoots.

When a photograph becomes an artwork

Some of my work does not stop at editing. The photograph becomes a composition: layout, typography, light trails, a setting the car ought to be standing in. This is graphic design built on a photographic base, and it is the part I spend the longest on.

The technique underneath changes with the subject. Sometimes the available light is enough, sometimes the car is lit panel by panel across many night exposures. I started doing this with no client at all. By now it is the reason clients get in touch.

Drift cars in tyre smoke in front of the Polsat Plus Arena at Ultrace 2026 in Gdańsk

2026 · Gdańsk, Poland

Ultrace, as official media

My first accreditation as an official photographer at one of the biggest stance events in Europe. No visitor ticket, no fence, but access to the cars before the gates even open to the public. And a spot trackside while drifters from all over the world turn their tyres into smoke.

Getting accredited at this event had been one of my big goals for a long time.

Three weeks in Japan, Tokyo Auto Salon

One week in and around Osaka, then two weeks in Tokyo. The Tokyo Auto Salon is the fixed point of the trip, but not its only reason.

Photographing the locals and their builds has been a goal of mine for a long time. Not the show cars under spotlights, but what sits in the car parks and on the streets of Tokyo at night. You will see how it turns out live on social media in January.

Static, motion, night, design.

Four approaches that have nothing to do with each other technically, and together show what is possible with your car. The look is part of it: where images look like old film, that is a decision made in editing, not an accident of the shoot.

Event photography for organisers, dealerships and brandsAn event is more than the cars parked on it.

For organisers, dealerships and brands: meets, shows, season openers, customer events. Nobody books a catalogue of cars. What people want is the feeling of the day: the crowd, the looks, the crush at the barrier, the moment everyone reaches for their phone at once.

Scope, time frame and usage rights are agreed up front, and the price follows from that.

From event work

Cars, people, atmosphere

A person standing on a tow truck with arms raised, grandstand in the background
Two drift cars at night under floodlights with the crowd behind
Photographer in a media vest trackside, a drifting BMW and spectators behind
White BMW E46 convertible shooting flames from the exhaust on the drift track
Mercedes CLK GTR in a hall surrounded by event visitors
Drift car in smoke on track, a marshal and a photographer in the foreground
Paddock with drift cars under canopies, tyres and tools beside them
Visitors at a car meet in Hamburg harbour in the evening sun, cranes in the background
A group talking between an Alfa Romeo Giulia and a Yamaha FZR, backlit
Orange BMW in Group 5 spec with the bonnet open between containers
Porsche 935 and a Group C prototype in Jägermeister livery in front of the arena in Gdańsk

Not just cars

Crowd, exhibitors, set-up, programme, your team at work. What gets covered is agreed beforehand.

Usage rights settled

Own channels, press or advertising. Whatever you need is written into the quote and priced in. No renegotiating afterwards.

Material the same day

On request, a quick first selection right after the event while it is still being talked about. The full edited set follows.

I know the scene

Among four hundred cars I spot the rare one, and I notice where something is about to happen. I know how these days run from both sides of the barrier, including as an accredited photographer at Ultrace.

An addition, not a replacement

Nor does anyone need replacing. I bring the perspective of the cars and the scene, which an all-round photographer rarely covers. It runs alongside, without anyone getting in each other's way.

As long as you need

Agreed in advance. Whether that is two hours of highlights or the whole event from set-up to tear-down, the scope is in the quote, not a surprise on the invoice.

Prices for car shoots in HamburgFixed prices. No guesswork.

One base price with add-ons you can combine freely. You should know where you stand before you get in touch, which is why the numbers are here and not in an email.

Car shoot Base

320 €

1 to 1.5 hours on location, 1 to 2 nearby spots around Hamburg, car stationary. At least 25 edited images at full resolution. Fixed price, nothing added later.

Add-ons, freely combinable

Rolling shots

+170 € as an add-on

Driving shots from a chase car on a suitable road, at least 5 additional edited images. Needs a second car and a driver, which we sort out beforehand. On its own, without the base shoot: €250.

Light painting

+150 € per image

After dark. The car is lit panel by panel and many exposures are merged into one image. Every shot is built individually, which is why it is priced per image.

Artwork

+170 € per image

One photograph from your shoot becomes a designed composition with its own background, typography and lighting. Also per image, because each one is designed individually.

Commercial

Events, dealerships, brands

On request

Coverage, exhibitor and brand work. Scope and usage rights differ every time, so this gets a proper quote instead of a list price. What it covers is described in the section for organisers.

Does your project not fit any of these? Send me a message and we will work something out.

Prices apply to Hamburg and the surrounding area, with travel inside the city included. Longer journeys are possible by arrangement: travel and, where needed, accommodation are charged separately and quoted to you beforehand. No VAT is charged under § 19 of the German VAT Act (small business rule).

The things everyone wonders about beforehand.

“My car isn't finished yet.”

No build is ever finished. And exactly the stage it is at today is the one that will be interesting in two years. We document the car as it is right now.

“I don't know what I'm supposed to do.”

You don't have to. You park the car, I take care of the rest. Positioning, angles and light are my job, and I'll tell you in good time if I need something.

“What if it rains?”

Wet tarmac reflects and often makes the better photo. If it really pours, we reschedule. No discussion, no cost.

“What do I actually get?”

Edited images at full resolution, no watermark, as a download. Yours to use on your own channels. I'll tag you if you want me to. You don't have to.

You get in touch

WhatsApp or email, with the car and a rough time frame. I usually reply the same day.

Date and location

We settle on the package, the place and the time. Location suggestions come from me, I know the spots.

Images arrive

Edited, at full resolution, as a download. I'll give you a firm turnaround time on the day of the shoot.
